Computer Security Issues

Submitted by: Vlajko Ramirez

Advances in machine engineering is a double-edged blade. On one transfer, it affords us fast and unproblematic operation to numerous conveniences such as container statements, dearie shopping centers, schoolhouse and welfare records, and much more. On the separate hand, it can also grant the duplicate right to those who aren’t supposed to get it. Though it’s a rare occurrence, hacking has get the large reprehensible nuisance in machine story.

Today’s hackers aren’t the pimply-faced young rebels that you strength be thought of. Instead, this multiplication of hackers are grown individuals who are solon than possible earning a living by concealment the identities of someone, law imperishable individuals and then commercialism those identities to others who necessary to eluding by the group. And the exclusive security against these sordid fill is hindrance.

Computer department couldn’t be many great than it is today and that’s why we’ve usurped the case to introduce it to you. You can shrink the probability of experiencing personality thievery by making your computer as hacker-proof as affirm-able. All that’s required is a immature software and a lot of grassroots meaning.

1. Put an anti-virus/anti-spyware announcement. Anti-virus/anti-spyware software instrument foreclose spiteful write from downloading and commencement onto your machine patch you peruse the Internet. Famed as viruses, worms, or spyware, this despiteful encipher can unmake Copernican files and create your computer saintly for exclusive one artifact: sending touchy assemblage corroborate to the server of an operator criminal.

2. Don’t outlet unreceptive assemblage on your computer in the rank station. Should your machine get septic with a virus, insect, or time of spyware, you can forestall the individuals causative by not storing your private collection on your PC so that when and if your computer does channelize backrest data – it won’t be anything valuable. Hackers look for things similar full defamation, ethnical safeguard numbers, sound lottery, base addresses, work-related collection, and commendation paper drawing. If these things aren’t ransomed onto a computer, there’s zilch machine to a non-virus premiss.

3. Don’t subject files without scanning them with an anti-virus/anti-spyware program. In the preceding, the warning was to refrain initiative files from fill that you don’t cognise. Today it’s rattling not harmless to agaze files from anyone (without scanning the files) because that’s how viruses get condiment – through files – even by error. So straight though your co-worker may hump emailed a questionable video, it’s no solon safe to artless than a recording downloaded from a all unknown. Be invulnerable and scan apiece and every line you download from the Net or invite through Create a obstacle between your computer and prying eyes. Anti-virus/anti-spyware programs are only useful after the essence. But you can keep individuality felony from occurring by instalment a firewall. A firewall is software that checks all information travel and exiting a machine and it then blocks that which doesn’t fulfill fixed precaution criteria (user-defined rules).1

5. Don’t stop on website course in email messages. In an exertion to obtain private aggregation, several spammers testament displace netmail that asks you to move on a holdfast. The telecommunicate messages are often covert as eminent messages from well-known online establishments, and they ofttimes try to anxiousness their readers into clicking links with threats of approach an statement of many operation. Sometimes the links are harmless and attempt to con the reverend into volunteering ain collection (impute bill confine), but added nowadays the links try to download pernicious software onto a machine.

Your optimal imposition against computer crimes is your own knowledge. Hopefully the suggestions above instrument inform you into taking reserve sue and into protecting your computer with the suggested tools. In doing so, you’ll not only protect yourself, you’ll forestall the scatter of these vindictive activities and protect others at the unvaried term.

Saturn moon Enceladus may have salty ocean

Saturn moon Enceladus may have salty ocean

Thursday, June 23, 2011

NASA’s Cassini–Huygens spacecraft has discovered evidence for a large-scale saltwater reservoir beneath the icy crust of Saturn’s moon Enceladus. The data came from the spacecraft’s direct analysis of salt-rich ice grains close to the jets ejected from the moon. The study has been published in this week’s edition of the journal Nature.

Data from Cassini’s cosmic dust analyzer show the grains expelled from fissures, known as tiger stripes, are relatively small and usually low in salt far away from the moon. Closer to the moon’s surface, Cassini found that relatively large grains rich with sodium and potassium dominate the plumes. The salt-rich particles have an “ocean-like” composition and indicate that most, if not all, of the expelled ice and water vapor comes from the evaporation of liquid salt-water. When water freezes, the salt is squeezed out, leaving pure water ice behind.

Cassini’s ultraviolet imaging spectrograph also recently obtained complementary results that support the presence of a subsurface ocean. A team of Cassini researchers led by Candice Hansen of the Planetary Science Institute in Tucson, Arizona, measured gas shooting out of distinct jets originating in the moon’s south polar region at five to eight times the speed of sound, several times faster than previously measured. These observations of distinct jets, from a 2010 flyby, are consistent with results showing a difference in composition of ice grains close to the moon’s surface and those that made it out to the E ring, the outermost ring that gets its material primarily from Enceladean jets. If the plumes emanated from ice, they should have very little salt in them.

“There currently is no plausible way to produce a steady outflow of salt-rich grains from solid ice across all the tiger stripes other than salt water under Enceladus’s icy surface,” said Frank Postberg, a Cassini team scientist at the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

The data suggests a layer of water between the moon’s rocky core and its icy mantle, possibly as deep as about 50 miles (80 kilometers) beneath the surface. As this water washes against the rocks, it dissolves salt compounds and rises through fractures in the overlying ice to form reserves nearer the surface. If the outermost layer cracks open, the decrease in pressure from these reserves to space causes a plume to shoot out. Roughly 400 pounds (200 kilograms) of water vapor is lost every second in the plumes, with smaller amounts being lost as ice grains. The team calculates the water reserves must have large evaporating surfaces, or they would freeze easily and stop the plumes.

“We imagine that between the ice and the ice core there is an ocean of depth and this is somehow connected to the surface reservoir,” added Postberg.

The Cassini mission discovered Enceladus’ water-vapor and ice jets in 2005. In 2009, scientists working with the cosmic dust analyzer examined some sodium salts found in ice grains of Saturn’s E ring but the link to subsurface salt water was not definitive. The new paper analyzes three Enceladus flybys in 2008 and 2009 with the same instrument, focusing on the composition of freshly ejected plume grains. In 2008, Cassini discovered a high “density of volatile gases, water vapor, carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide, as well as organic materials, some 20 times denser than expected” in geysers erupting from the moon. The icy particles hit the detector target at speeds between 15,000 and 39,000 MPH (23,000 and 63,000 KPH), vaporizing instantly. Electrical fields inside the cosmic dust analyzer separated the various constituents of the impact cloud.

“Enceladus has got warmth, water and organic chemicals, some of the essential building blocks needed for life,” said Dennis Matson in 2008, Cassini project scientist at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

“This finding is a crucial new piece of evidence showing that environmental conditions favorable to the emergence of life can be sustained on icy bodies orbiting gas giant planets,” said Nicolas Altobelli, the European Space Agency’s project scientist for Cassini.

“If there is water in such an unexpected place, it leaves possibility for the rest of the universe,” said Postberg.

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Buffalo, New York —The preliminary hearing for a lawsuit against the Elmwood Village Hotel proposal has been pushed back to August 10, 2006.

The hotel would require the demolition of at least five properties owned by Hans Mobius, 1109-1121 Elmwood and would cause the closure of several businesses. Already, two businesses, Skunk Tail Glass and Six Nations Native American Gift Shop have relocated, outside the Elmwood Strip. Don apparel, H.O.D. Tattoo and Mondo Video still remain on Elmwood; however, Mondo Video is planning on moving to a new location. The hotel will be 72 rooms and will cost at least 7 million dollars to build. Savarino Construction Services Corporation would be in charge of building the hotel and Wyndham Hotels would operate it.

Attorney Arthur Giacalone says that the court date was pushed back because “the court apparently felt it did not make sense to proceed with oral argument on 7/27 if Savarino is going to re-start the process.” Giacalone also stated that the decision to adjourn until August 10 “was not my idea.” On July 13, 2006 Savarino announced that they were withdrawing the proposal to “resubmit” it to “shed the lawsuits” against the proposal.

Savarino was allegedly supposed to resubmit the proposal by the end of last week but so far has not done so. The final meeting of Buffalo’s Common Council for the summer occurred today. The Council will not meet again until September.

“If they [Savarino] took no action today, re the hotel, [that is, accepting the new application, or rescinding the prior rezoning resolution], nothing official will happen for the next 6 weeks or so,” added Giacalone also saying that if this is the case, “the court may not be willing to hear oral argument on 8/10 since we will still be up in the air about what’s going on.” Giacalone also states that he is unsure about “what they [the Common Council] did today.”

Despite the call for a “do-over” of the proposals process, Giacalone still states that his client’s position of the “pending lawsuit will not be ‘moot’ or ‘academic’ unless and until the Common Council rescinds its prior vote(s) that approved the rezoning” for the buildings on Elmwood and one property on Forest Avenues.

Sam Savarino, CEO of Savarino Construction has been contacted, but has not replied to any e-mails. Area councilman Joseph Golombeck has also been e-mailed, but also has not replied.

Agriculture Department investigating possible U.S. case of mad cow disease

Saturday, March 11, 2006

The Associated Press has reported that the United States Department of Agriculture is currently investigating a possible case of mad cow disease. USDA official John Clifford said that a routine test indicated the possible presence of the disease.

The Agriculture Department says that the first test was inconclusive and that further tests are being conducted in the department’s laboratory in Ames, Iowa; however, those test results for bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) will not be available for at least 4-7 days.

“This inconclusive result does not mean we have found a new case of BSE. Inconclusive results are a normal component of most screening tests, which are designed to be extremely sensitive,” said Clifford. “We remain very confident in the safety of U.S. beef.”

Clifford also stated that no parts of the cow have entered the human food or animal feed chain.

At least 150 human deaths worldwide have been linked to the consumption of affected cattle, most in the United Kingdom. One case of the disease was reported in a human in the U.S., but the Centers for Disease Control believe that the individual got it while traveling in the U.K.

The U.S. has had a total of two previously confirmed cases of the disease. The most recent occurred in June when, for the first time, a calf born in the U.S. tested positive for the disease. The first case was in December 2003 when the disease was found in a cow born in Canada located at a Washington State farm.

On March 3, the EU confirmed Sweden‘s first case of mad cow disease. Canada reported its fourth case of mad cow disease in January.

Creative Ideas For Canvas Art}

Creative Ideas for Canvas Art

by

James Horton

Unlike standard artwork, canvas prints are not printed onto paper and as the name obviously implies, they are printed onto canvas. The canvas is then stretched around a hard wooden frame to provide a stunning effect with no visible frame.

Just why is it that big brand named companies are now choosing canvas prints over traditional art?

One of the main reasoning for this transition is that canvas art provides such a stunning effect. A well chosen canvas can add beauty to any room. Thanks to technology, any type of picture can be transferred onto canvas; they can be used to show emotion, events or simply a companys promotional message or logo. A perfect canvas print has the ability to make people stop and stare, just like fine art but with the advantage of being a lot less expensive.

Here are some creative ideas for canvas art and prints:

1.Make your own artwork With modern technology such as Photoshop, it is getting increasingly easy to edit your own art and photos by means of a computer. Have you created a virtual masterpiece? Bring it to life in the form of a canvas print for everyone to admire!

2.Enhance your family photos Using Photoshop you can do a multitude of things to your photos, including but not limited to: resizing, cropping, removing certain items and you can even remove the entire background! It is also possible to add special effects such as the famous pop-art effect or exotic backdrops to your photos.

3.Holiday photos Did you take a sensational snapshot of some foreign extravagance last time you went on holiday? Would you like to re-live it every time you wake up? Simply upload your photo to your computer, edit it if you need to, and then send it off to be professionally printed. Within a couple of days you could be waking up to a memory of your favourite holiday.

4.Use Stock photos Not quite the artist yourself but fancy some unique art? Luckily there are artists willing to sell or even give away their art online for you to print onto canvas! Just check there arent any copyrights before you print anything.

One thing that hasnt been mentioned yet is the cost of all this and most people are pleasantly surprised to find out that they can purchase one of these canvases for as little as twenty pounds. In comparison to traditional art, these prices are really inexpensive which means it is no wonder that so many people are choosing canvas prints to decorate their home.

Some recent research has even found that a high quality canvas print will outlast traditional photographs. Normal photographs fade after about twenty years whereas a high quality canvas can maintain its colour for an average of seventy years! Using some of these great ideas can easily turn a room into an art gallery.

It is our belief that everyone should understand the true beauty that is achievable through canvas printing.

Multiple planes perform aerial spraying over greater Dallas, Texas in effort to combat mosquitoes

Multiple planes perform aerial spraying over greater Dallas, Texas in effort to combat mosquitoes

Sunday, August 19, 2012

52,000 acres of land in Dallas county were sprayed aerially Thursday evening, in an effort to kill mosquitoes and reduce the spread of the sometimes-deadly West Nile Virus. More planes were slated to treat again on Friday. The state as a whole has seen more than 400 confirmed instances of the illness already this year.

Both the city’s mayor, David Rawlings, and the county’s Judge have executed a state of emergency. Each has rendered his support for the aerial action. The mayor told media, “I cannot have any more deaths on my conscience because we did not take action”. However, Rawlings is reserving his statement about the treatments’ effectiveness until a later time, to allow opportunity to assess the outcomes of the treatments. Some individuals have voiced fears over whether or not the chemicals might be harmful. One Dallas man told reporters he made no efforts to leave his home on Friday, and turned off his home’s air conditioner, in an attempt to safeguard possible chemical threat to his family. Dr. Roger Nasci of the Centers for Disease Control told reporters, “It’s something new there that has not been used in quite a number of years.” He further stated, “Anything novel comes with that unknown factor.”

Due to the scope of the problem, the Texas Health Department is intervening to supervise the action and to offset costs. The state’s Health Commissioner told media, “This year is totally different from the experience Texas has had in the past”. “If it’s nuisance mosquitoes, we ask the city or county to pay part of that. But in the midst of this disease outbreak, it’s easier for us to go ahead and do it”. Several Beechcraft King Air twin-engine planes sprayed on Thursday evening. The chemical used is synthetic pyrethroid; a specialist participating in the action told media the planes are normally loaded with chemicals just before take off, to minimize light exposure. One application costs approximately US$1 million.

Pilots were informed of certain exclusion zones, such as one containing the Preston Hollow home of former US President George W. Bush, and their flight plans factored in such information. The commissioner for the state’s department of health services is encouraging citizens to continue applying insect spray repellant while outdoors. The state has had seventeen West Nile-related deaths this year.

Reports from Friday morning indicated no county residents had been medically treated for reactions. The county’s judge told media he hadn’t expected any medical reactions to the chemicals used. East Dallas residents were reported that morning in ordinary outdoor exercise activities.

Study finds burning your food could cause some cancers

Study finds burning your food could cause some cancers

Wednesday, December 5, 2007

Dutch scientists have said in a study that burning your food may lead to certain types of cancer, particularly in women. Scientists also say that more research is needed to make a definite determination and that there are other factors that could be to blame.

“This new study supports our current advice, which already assumes that acrylamide has the potential to be a human carcinogen. Since acrylamide forms naturally in a wide variety of cooked foods, it is not possible to have a healthy, balanced diet that avoids it,” said a Food Standards Agency spokesperson.

According to the study, acrylamides, a chemical produced when cooking foods high in carbohydrates over 120 degrees Celsius (248 degrees Fahrenheit) in the frying, toasting and grilling processes, is a likely cause of some womb and ovarian cancers. Although it was found in 2002 that the chemical may be a cause of some cancers, the new study shows, for the first time, a link between the chemical in a human diet being a cause. To date, there is no evidence to suggest the chemical may cause breast cancer.

Scientists followed and monitored 120,000 people over an 11-year-period, of whom 62,000 were women. Of the women, 300 ended up contracting ovarian cancer with 327 contracting womb cancer.

The study concluded that more than 40 micrograms of the chemical, or one bag of potato chips per day, is twice as likely to cause cancer in women.

“General advice, resulting from this project, is to avoid overcooking when baking, frying or toasting carbohydrate-rich foods,” said a spokesman for the European Union.

How To Raise Your Home\’S Value Easily

How To Raise Your Home\’s Value Easily

by

Shany Luise

Always communicate with anyone that shares responsibility for the project, whether it is a business partner or a spouse. Understanding what the project consists of right from the start by ensuring everyone knows their roles, helps eliminate finger pointing when something isn\’t done on time during the project. Ultimately, it takes the pressure off you because you have a clear idea of what areas are your responsibility.

Windows

When you are looking to replace or install window treatments in your home, look into options that tint the windows to reduce the sun glare that comes through during the day as well as shades that can keep your home insulated. This means that the heat will be kept in during the winter and the cool in during the summers.

Increase your homes efficiency to improve your personal finance. A lot of the heat you pay for is escaping out of cracks in doorframes, windows, and through poor insulation. By investing in ways to make your home more efficient, you can cut your bills down tremendously. LED Light bulbs are another easy way to save extra money.

New Windows

One energy-efficient improvement you can make to your home is to replace your windows. Older-style single-panel windows don\’t insulate the inside of your home nearly as well as the newer double-panel style. New windows will increase the aesthetic beauty of your home while saving you money each month in electricity bills.

Are your windows outdated? Do they provide the right insulation? Maybe one or two of them are cracked or perhaps the style and design just doesn\’t fit the times anymore. Updating to new windows improves the beauty of your home as well as the value. Consider getting new windows if it is time.

Windows And Doors

Save energy and money by using passive solar heating. Use thermal drapes on your windows and keep them open during the sunny part of the day in winter and closed during the sunny part of the day in summer. Be sure to seal out drafts around windows and doors to prevent unwanted hot or cold air from entering.

Windows and doors make a perfect home improvement project. You can add an indoor window box or change out your old patio doors for French doors. It is often possible to find good deals on these types of materials at the home improvement store. You won\’t have to spend a lot of money to make a dramatic change.

Energy Efficient Windows

Always select energy-efficient windows for home improvement projects. Modern windows conserve energy in a variety of ways, from special glass coatings to tight-sealing gaskets. The most efficient of modern double-glazed windows even have noble-gas-filled glazing cavities to prevent heat transmission. High-tech windows can help the homeowner realize significant savings on heating and cooling.

Use windows with secondary glazing. They\’re pricey, but they\’ll keep energy costs down. If you plan to replace your windows, go for the best. These windows are not only energy efficient enough to assist in heating and cooling, they help keep the noise of the outside world from entering your home.

Even if you only want to complete a minor project, you will be more successful if you follow the advice in this article. This information is sure to help you as you map out your next project, whether it\’s for the bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, or even your front and back lawn. Haiti votes in presidential runoff

Haiti votes in presidential runoff

Monday, March 21, 2011

Voters in Haiti are going to the polls today to vote for the country’s next president. The election follows months of political turmoil after the corrupt first round election in November caused a crisis requiring international intervention.

Haiti is still struggling to recover from the devastating January 2010 earthquake, with about one million people remaining in squalid, temporary shelters and a recent cholera epidemic which threatens to break out again with the return of the rainy season. Observers are hoping the new president will restore enough stability so rebuilding efforts can begin with international help.

In Haiti’s first round of balloting in November, names were missing from voter rolls, ballot boxes were stuffed or trashed, voters were blocked from the precincts by supporters of candidates, among other irregularities. Haitians rioted, plunging the process into chaos that was quelled by the determined efforts of foreign monitors.

Out of the original 19 candidates, two remained after the first round: Mirlande Manigat, age 70, a sedate, reserved university professor and wife of former president Leslie Manigat, and pop star “Sweet Micky” Martelly, age 50, who the The Washington Post described as being “a popular kompa singer […] famous for dropping his pants on stage, mooning audiences, and dressing in drag — or sometimes a diaper.”

However, Martelly has waged an energetic, well financed campaign with pink campaign posters picturing his smiling face and bald head, cultivating a populist image with Haiti’s poor. He has been successful at marketing himself as an unpretentious outsider who will shake up the political system and yank the country out of its paralysis. At the same time, he has courted the upper class with a platform containing pro-business promises and support for the return of the Haitian army.

The sedate personality of Manigat contrasts starkly with that of Martelly. She portrays herself as a dignified, mature mother figure able to nurture Haiti through its troubles.

The determining factor may be the popular former president Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who returned two days ago to Haiti from South America after seven years in exile. Aristide has not endorsed either candidate, but Aristide supporters, among those Haitians most desperately poor, have voiced support for Manigat. Upon Aristide’s arrival, there were banners saying, “My mother is here already. Welcome home Father”, according to The Washington Post.

Pierre-Marie Boisson, a private-sector economist in Haiti, sees the candidates as having similar platforms, promising jobs, housing and free education, even if their personal styles are so different. “They have both promised the moon to the voters,” he said. He noted that this puts tremendous pressure on the winner to produce results quickly in a world where the price of food and fuel is rising.

As voting concluded, despite some irregularities such as missing ballots and late starts, authorities concluded the voting went well, without the pervasive fraud that marked the November election. Colin Granderson, head of Organization of American States (OAS) observer mission, said the runoff election was a great improvement over the previous one.

The final results will be announced on April 16.
