Want An Effective Weight Loss Method? Try Running

How to Lose Weight Running

Do you need to lose weight and get in shape? Well, running is one of the most ideal activities for that purpose. First of all, it is very hard to get that kind of intense workout doing things such as running or low impact aerobics. In many ways, running is an ideal activity because even if you can get a good workout doing something else, it is a lot easier to keep on creating a challenging workout with running.

Set Weight Loss Goals

Before you set out to create a running plan for weight loss, the first thing you should do is decide what you want to accomplish. Determine how much weight you want to lose and how quickly you want to lose it. This will affect how often you will run and how long each running session will be. The faster, further, and longer you go, the more weight you will lose.

Create a Weight Loss Plan

The next thing to do is to create a running weight loss plan based on your goals. The plan should include your route, how long the route will take, and how long you want to stick with that particular route. If you want to run three or four times a week, a course of around three or four miles should be adequate.

Eat for Weight Loss

You may realize that no that you are running more, your appetite has increased. That is your body s way of telling you that you need more nutrients in your diet. It is important to eat when you get hungry, otherwise it will harm your metabolism. The important thing to remember is to make good food choices and to not overeat. As long as you are eating a little less than what you need, it will not hurt your metabolism. In fact, you will begin to lose weight because your body will use your extra fat as fuel.

Keep it Challenging

One thing about running is that it is very easy to adapt to your current plan. That is why it is important to keep the workout challenging. One way to do this is to change your route after a few weeks by either lengthening it or choosing something else. Another good way to make your running challenging is to do intervals. Interval training is when you alternate running fast with jogging. You can increase the fast running intervals each time you feel your body begin to adapt.

It is not only possible to lose weight running, but running makes it much easier. Just remember to keep your route challenging and to make sure you eat nutritiously.

Study shows long-term couples more satisfied with relationships and sex lives

Tuesday, July 12, 2011

A recently-published international study shows that in long-term couples, men are more satisfied with their relationships, and women are more satisfied with their sex lives.

The study, which also says that men enjoy cuddling (i.e. hugging and kissing) more than women, was published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour by the Kinsey Institute in Indiana University Bloomington. More formally known as the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction, the organization is also known for reporting in the 1940s that young adults were having sex. The report observed more than 1,000 couples from the US, Japan, Germany, Spain, and Brazil. All of the survey participants were aged 40 to 70, and all of the couples had been together for at least a year. The average duration of the relationship was 25 years.

Japanese men were more likely to be satisfied with their sex lives than American men, and Japanese and Brazilian women were more likely to be satisfied with their sex lives than American women, though the study did not control for other factors such as age.

Women in relationships lasting at least 15 years were more likely to be happy with their sex lives than women in relationships lasting less than 15 years. According to the report’s author Julia Heiman, “It’s possible that women became more satisfied over time because their expectations change, or life changes when their children grow up.”

Men who reported regular hugging and kissing in their relationships were three times as happy as those without cuddling.

Jennifer Bass, communications director at the Kinsey Institute, says that “this study makes it clear our assumptions aren’t always borne out by research,” referring to common beliefs that men prefer sex while women prefer cuddling.

New Zealand Reserve Bank phone hacker not convicted

New Zealand Reserve Bank phone hacker not convicted

Thursday, September 28, 2006

Gerasimos Macridis, 39-years-old, left the court room discharged without conviction after hacking into the New Zealand Reserve Bank’s phone system and then asking for money for his services after pointing out these security flaws to both the Reserve Bank and Telecom New Zealand in May, 2006, and offering to fix them. He had identified himself as a security consultant.

The New Zealand Police then raided his home and took his computer on 21 September. Macridis told police that he did not think it was illegal, but knew he was not authorised to access the phone systems. Telecom then took him to court.

Colin McGilicray, police prosecutor, said: “Macridis has a significant number of previous fraud convictions and it appeared he was trying to obtain money through virtue of his technical knowledge.”

Macridis, who represented himself, told the court that for 11-years he had worked as a casual security consultant and he had worked for Telecom, police and Department of Internal Affairs.

Macridis thought himself as an honest, law abiding citizen as his 1994 conviction had ‘turned his life around’.

Judge Ian Mill said this case was very unusual and also noted that Macridis ended his offending over 10-years ago.

Mill said: “Macridis used his talents to identify security risks and he had identified a grave risk to the Reserve Bank and its customers. Macridis provided a report of his findings, requested payment albeit without a contract and for his troubles was prosecuted. He did not pass the information on to others and did not use it for personal gain.”

“In my view his intentions were honourable,” Mill added.

Mill discharged him without conviction on the basis that a conviction would be out of proportion with his actions.

US adds 173,000 jobs in August; unemployment rate drops to seven year low

Monday, September 7, 2015

The US economy added 173,000 jobs in August, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Friday. The unemployment rate fell from 5.3 to 5.1 percent, the lowest since April 2008.

Although August job gains were lower than most economists forecast, job growth numbers for June and July were revised upwards by a combined 44,000. Average job gains over the past three months stand at 221,000, compared to March-May’s 189,000 monthly average. Over the past twelve months, job growth has averaged 247,000 per month.

Average hourly earnings rose 0.3 percent, or 8 cents, marking the largest increase in earnings in seven months. Hourly earnings had risen by 6 cents in July. Wages have risen by 2.2 percent over the past year.

Job growth in August was primarily concentrated in the health care and social assistance, financial activities, and professional and business services sectors. Those three areas of the economy added a combined 108,000 jobs. Food service and drinking places employment increased by 26,000 over the month, and other economic sectors saw employment hold steady. Manufacturing, on the other hand, saw employment decline by 17,000 in August. A stronger dollar and worldwide economic weakness make US exports less desirable, leading to a flattening in manufacturing employment so far this year after steadily rising in the early years of the US economic recovery.

The solid overall job gains led analysts to slightly raise expectations for a decision by the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates this month. Investors raised the likelihood of a September rate increase from 26 percent before the jobs report to 30 percent, and stocks dropped by over one percent on Friday. “The payrolls data is certainly good enough to allow for a Fed rate hike in September,” said Deutsche Bank’s head of currency strategy, Alan Ruskin. “The big question is still whether financial market volatility will scupper the plans.”

“This is the first time the market has looked at a Fed meeting and really has no idea what the Fed is going to do,” said Mark Kepner, a New Jersey equity trader with Themis Trading. “Right now you’re looking at the overall uncertainty and that’s what’s hanging on the market. I don’t think this number in and of itself changes how somebody’s going to vote.”

Treating Gynecomastia}

Submitted by: Diane Crawford

Gynecomastia is when the glandular breast tissue found in men and boys, develops excessively. There are a number of factors that play a role when seeking treatment for Gynecomastia. The first factor to be considered is the cause, as this will determine the course of treatment that will be used. There are quite a few causes of gynecomastia that can include: a large number of medications, tumors, puberty, steroid use, obesity, genetic disorders, liver problems and other underlying diseases.

Generally, sixty percent of boys at the age of puberty will show symptoms of pubertal gynecomastia. When gynecomastia is a result of pubertal development, it will most likely resolve itself within a year or two, requiring no medical treatment. Another cause of gynecomastia that would require no treatment would be if the cause were drug use. It has been shown that stopping the medication that caused this, will fix the problem.

If an underlying disease were the cause of gynecomastia, such as hepatic conditions, hyperthyroidism or even hypogonadism, the treatment would most likely start with treating the underlying condition. Usually, gynecomastia can be resolved when the underlying diseases are treated first. Chances are, if it is a mild case of gynecomastia that is only detectable by a medical exam, it will not require treatment as well.

Treating Gynecomastia usually involves an effective and relatively safe procedure of plastic surgery. This is usually the treatment of choice as it is proven to give the best results at an affordable price. When considering this type of treatment, you will want to get an evaluation with a plastic surgeon to determine if this is the right treatment option for the severity of your condition.

How long you have had gynecomastia and what the severity of the symptoms is also plays a big role in the type of treatment you will get.

Candidates that are a good match for gynecomastia treatment are the ones with tender breasts and also have pain in that area or people that show that they are having emotional difficulty because of their condition. A patient will have to give their full medical history and give details of their current condition prior to the treatment.

The plastic surgery treatment for gynecomastia is usually on an outpatient basis and will involve the removal of the extra glandular or fatty tissue in the breast area. This generally can be achieved with small incisions made in inconspicuous places in the area of the areola while removing the extra tissue through a small tube or with a scapula.

With this method of treating gynecomastia, you can expect to be in surgery for two or three hours, all while under general anesthesia. You recovery time is generally a short period, with a full recovery within four to six weeks. As with any medical condition, you will need to seek the advice of your medical professional. Before starting any type of treatment plan, make sure you have the right plan that meets the needs of your condition.

UAE launches national authority for scientific research

Wednesday, March 19, 2008

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced its first national authority for scientific research (NASR) to coordinate and fund scientific research in the country.

The national authority for scientific research was announced on March 7 by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE minister for higher education and scientific research. NASR will begin with an annual budget of AED100 million (approximately US$27.2 million). The authority hopes to receive additional contributions from the public and the private sector.

NASR will look to fund research projects in various fields, including engineering, technology, medicine, water and agriculture, proposing specific projects to be competed for by researchers at universities and private research institutes.

“Projects are going to be selected to help promote scientific research and the growth of UAE society and we will compare them with international scientific research criteria,” Gulf News quoted Al Nahyan as saying at the launch.

NASR will also train scientists and develop programmes for promoting public science awareness. It will also coordinate with government authorities on the issue of intellectual property rights, by providing advice on how companies and research centres should go about protecting their discoveries in the form of patents or licenses. It will also provide scholarships for researchers in the UAE to work on international research programmes, and organise national scientific conferences. NASR forms part of the UAE’s strategic plan to improve higher education and scientific research.

Zakaria Maamar, associate professor at the College of Information Technology at Zayed University, UAE, told Science and Development Network (SciDev.Net) that, “This initiative is another boost to the research and development activities that are carried out in the UAE. It will definitely provide researchers with the appropriate funds to sustain such activities and promote best practices in the community.”

Said Elnaffar, assistant professor at the college of information technology at the United Arab Emirates University, told SciDev.Net that, with this initiative, the UAE is taking the lead and setting a good example by building a strong development infrastructure founded on knowledge discovery and research.

Early morning fire kills four New York group home residents

Sunday, March 22, 2009

After an early morning fire began, four out of the nine people living at the Riverview Individual Residential Alternative group home located in Wells, New York were killed by the blaze. The Sunmount Developmental Disabilities Services Office, which supervises the home, told the media that the fire started at approximately 5:30 AM Eastern Daylight Time. Two staff members were at the home at the time, who safely evacuated four of the five survivors.

The names of the residents killed in the fire were not able to be released due to New York’s Mental Hygiene Law, but are able to be identified as two adult men, aged 32 and 52, and two adult women, aged 43 and 60. A 71-year-old male was injured in the fire, and was taken to a hospital in Utica, a nearby city. The other four residents have been relocated to an unnamed group home. Both staff members are also being examined at the hospital.

“On behalf of all New Yorkers, I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones and friends of the four victims and to continue to pray for the full recovery of those five people and two staff members who survived this incident. I also want to express my thanks and appreciation for the first responders and volunteers who worked swiftly and diligently to respond to this tragedy,” David Patterson, the governor of New York, said to the media.

The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined. However, the New York Civil Liberties Union stated that “the blaze appears to have been an electrical fire and the sprinkler system was knocked out immediately.” They also called for “an immediate investigation into the causes of and contributing factors of the fire.”

The New York State Department of State Office of Fire Prevention and Control is currently investigating the causes of the blaze, with help from New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation and the New York State Commission on Quality of Care and Advocacy for Persons with Disabilities.

Medical Conditions Can No Longer Leave You Short Of Cover

Medical Conditions Can No Longer Leave You Short of Cover

by

Angus Leonard

Understanding the reasons behind a refusal to provide life insurance cover can be difficult. After all, insurance companies are in the business for making money. Each individual carries a certain amount of risk. The greater the risk associated with the proposer, the higher the premium. Life insurance companies rely on a lot of data and statistics. They use these to ascertain whether to provide insurance cover to an individual or not. A fair number of people remain associated with normal levels of risk. Hence, they fall into the category of being safe propositions. Certain individuals carry a larger proportion of risk. This could be because of their occupation, which keeps them exposed to a greater degree of risk. It could be because of their smoking or drinking habits. It could also be because of various other reasons. Depending on the individual circumstances, underwriters advise the insurance company on accepting or declining the proposal.

One of the main principles behind

life insurance

remains the Principle of Utmost Good Faith . This principle denotes that the insurance company accepts the risk and provides insurance cover to an individual based on the details filled in on the proposal form. This principle requires that the insurer and the proposer hide no material facts from each other. In other words, the onus lies on the individual seeking insurance to provide accurate information on the proposal form. Based on the information provided, the insurer decides on whether accepting or declining the proposal is worthwhile. One of the sections of the proposal form entails providing information on pre-existing medical conditions of the insured. For many people, this section poses several problems. While some people suffering from various ailments get coverage from the insurance company, others are not as lucky. In particular, certain illnesses like coronary diseases, depression, melanoma etc. can be the cause behind a refusal to provide cover.

For over sixty years, the principals of Special Risk Managers (Sydney, NSW) have earned a growing reputation in the field of life insurance. Our expertise and experience gives us an unparalleled edge over many others in the domain. You might find several agents and brokers who can provide life insurance to most individuals. However, for most people suffering from serious medical conditions, we offer the only hope of getting life insurance. You cannot miss the concern that insurance companies deny cover to people who need life insurance the most. It also remains matter of grave irony. On account of the difficulties associated with getting insurance for such people, Special Risk Managers took on the challenge. Our sole aim remains that of obtaining life insurance cover to people suffering from serious medical conditions. Hence, we tied up with an international reinsurance company. This exclusive arrangement enables us to provide hope and succor to people classified as being uninsurable.

Life insurance companies have a list of diseases or medical conditions they do not insure. These range from Angina to Alzheimer s; from colitis to melanoma and from stroke to epilepsy. Of these, the most common causes for rejection include:

Angina: Chest pain, when linked to the heart and its functions, denotes a condition of angina. Angina can be of three types i.e. stable, unstable and variant. Overworking of the heart, which results in a regular and predictable pattern of chest pains denotes stable angina. The pains last for a few minutes and medicines can provide quick relief. Unstable angina attacks do not follow a pattern. Even worse, they indicate that a heart attack could be just around the corner. Cases of variant angina are rare and mostly occur at rest. Not all chest pains indicate an angina attack. However, life insurance companies seldom provide angina life insurance to people diagnosed with this condition.

Bipolar Affective Disorder: Bipolar life insurance could be hard to obtain. A manic-depressive illness of the mind, life insurance companies seldom provided bipolar life insurance to the afflicted a decade or so ago. Today, however, the progress in medication and treatment enables many afflicted individuals to receive life insurance without any worries.

Bowel Conditions: Conditions like Crohn s Disease, Colitis and Ulcerative Colitis make it difficult to buy bowel life insurance. Insurance companies consider whether the individual has shown any symptoms of Crohn s Disease over the previous twelve months. If yes, then they reject the risk or accept it with a higher premium. If the individual showed symptoms of affliction over a year ago, the insurer provides the cover at the normal rates. Similarly, insurance companies provide bowel life insurance for colitis based on the severity and on how recently the individual exhibited symptoms of the ailment.

Coronary Heart Disease: This disease results in the complete or partial blockage of blood to the heart. Fatty build-up in the walls of the coronary arteries remains the leading cause of this disease. Life insurers usually refrain from providing coronary life insurance as this condition often results in heart attacks.

Depression: Life insurance companies provide depression life insurance only after going through a careful examination of all the facts. Depression remains highly treatable even in the severest of cases. However, since insurers want to reduce the risks associated with those suffering from depression as much as possible, it could be a reason for rejection too.

Melanoma: A particularly serious type of skin cancer, melanoma usually occurs on the skin. Occasionally, it can occur in the eyes too. It starts affecting skin cells called melanocytes that make melanin. Melanin gives the skin its color. It also protects the skin from the ultraviolet rays of the sun. However, prolonged exposure to these ultraviolet rays, atypical moles etc., can result in melanoma. Since this is quite severe, insurance companies can refuse to provide melanoma life insurance.

Regardless of the condition you might suffer from, Special Risk Managers believe that we can obtain insurance coverage for you. We deal directly with the individuals and occasionally work in tandem with financial advisors to provide our clients with life insurance. May diseases that had no cure years ago, are inherently curable today. Similarly, several cases that insurers refused to provide cover to, can obtain the protective cover of insurance today. Why not call us at 1300 66 53 56 and allow us to alleviate your insecurity? With our expertise and assurance, you could benefit from our support and the cover provided by your new life insurance policy.
