Officials have increased their relief efforts, bringing food, blankets, tents, and other assistance to the area.

Yesterday, an official remembrance day for those killed was held; public entertainment was limited and national Chinese flags flew at half-mast.

4-year-old boy killed by dog in Liverpool, England

Tuesday, December 1, 2009

A four-year-old boy has been killed by a dog in the city of Liverpool in Merseyside, England. The child has been identified as John Paul Massey. The animal belonged to his uncle. The boy’s 63-year-old grandmother Helen Foulkes tried to protect the boy but ended up getting bitten by the dog in the process. She had to receive hospital treatment for the injury.

The dog itself was shot dead in the front garden of the house where the attack had taken place. The police had said that they did not take further action after receiving a report about dog breeding earlier this year.

Chief Superintendent Steve Ashley from the police force said about the incident: “In February this year a housing officer rang Merseyside Police to say they had received complaints of dog breeding at the address. At that time the police said it wasn’t a police matter and no action was taken by Merseyside Police.

That is contrary to our policies and an investigation is now launched into exactly what happened in February.”

Hvac Companies Offer Regular Maintenance And Ac Repair

byadmin

Many homeowners are at a loss when their heating and cooling equipment needs servicing in the home they just purchased. There may be a business card or numbers written with magic marker inside the furnace door, and left by the former homeowner, which could make it easier. The Realtor can be called if a list of names of heating and cooling companies, and other service companies in the area, hasn’t been provided. At the same time, it may be best for the homeowners, themselves, to find a company that cleans and maintains systems a couple times a year. There are excellent companies in the Palm Harbor area that have been around for a long time and provide excellent service to customers.

When it comes to AC Repair or installations, many of the companies work with TRANE, Lennox and Carrier because they’re excellent companies. If a homeowner needs repairs on another type of product, HVAC technicians have been trained to repair any type of equipment the homeowner has. They also carry all the tools needed in their vans so that the furnace or air conditioner can be repaired in one visit. When people purchase their home systems from companies like Palm Harbor Heating & Air Conditioning, they can be sure they’re installed properly.

Good companies in the area also like to come back to the home regularly to maintain the systems they just installed. Signing up for maintenance service is good for warranties. HVAC companies know that when they have documented proof a client has them maintain their home’s heating and cooling system, Lennox, TRANE and Carrier will uphold the warranty, for sure. Any type of system can have a problem, and need AC Repair, plus it could even be a lemon, but that’s when the warranties come into play and the homeowner isn’t literally left out in the cold. That’s also when knowing a company that offers the highest quality products, and employ technicians that understand when a product is beyond repairing, is very important.

Customers keep companies in business because they spend their money, plus they talk a lot. When they’re happy with service, prices, installations, and cleanliness of the technicians, everyone is going to hear the good news. HVAC companies strive each day to make sure their customers have good news to spread.

Honolulu man dies after fall into sewage-contaminated harbor

Saturday, April 8, 2006

A Honolulu man who fell into the sewage-contaminated Ala Wai Yacht Harbor died Thursday night of a massive bacterial infection that caused the loss of one of his legs, septic shock, and ultimately organ failure.

Oliver Johnson, 34, a Honolulu mortgage broker, died between 9:15 and 9:30 p.m. HST Thursday (0715-0730 UTC Friday) when his family removed him from life support. On Friday, March 31, Johnson had apparently fallen into the waters of the Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, located at the mouth of the Ala Wai Canal on the western side of Waikiki.

At the time, the canal and surrounding beaches were contaminated by over 48 million gallons of untreated sewage. The extent to which the sewage spill contributed to Johnson’s symptoms remains unclear.

Johnson earlier reported that he had fallen accidentally into the harbor, then later indicated that he had been involved in a fight on board a boat and had been pushed or thrown into the harbor waters. A security guard at Johnson’s apartment reported that he was bloodied and soaking wet, and that he stumbled into the lobby and collapsed. Paramedics took Johnson to Straub Hospital where he was treated and released.

Johnson reported steadily worsening leg pain that weekend and was admitted to Queen’s Hospital on Sunday with breathing difficulties. Doctors that night amputated his left leg above the knee to try to halt the spread of the infection, and Johnson was placed in a medically induced coma.

Initially suspecting that Johnson had contracted streptococcus-caused necrotizing fasciitis, doctors later found that Johnson had contracted three different bacteria, two of which, vibrio vulnificus and aeromonas hydrophila, have flesh-eating properties. Despite the amputation, Johnson’s condition steadily worsened to the point where doctors said that his other leg and left arm would also have needed to be amputated to save his life.

An autopsy performed by the Honolulu medical examiner’s office reported that Johnson had suffered from massive organ failure caused by septic shock. The medical examiner noted that Johnson had a vulnificus infection on his foot and suffered from chronic alcoholic liver disease which may have contributed to the infection’s taking hold.

The Honolulu Police Department has opened a third-degree assault case; with Johnson’s death, homicide detectives are also investigating. State health officials are also investigating Johnson’s illness.

Johnson’s family has retained an attorney to investigate the causes surrounding his illness and death. It is not clear yet whether any legal action will be taken.

Australian health workers to close intensive care units in Victoria next week

Australian health workers to close intensive care units in Victoria next week

Thursday, March 13, 2008

Members of Australia’s Health Services Union (HSU) will go on strike in Victoria next week in a dispute over stalled wage and career structure negotiations. Over 5000 physiotherapists, speech pathologists and radiation therapists will walk off the job next week, effectively closing the state’s 68 largest health services.

The strike will force the closure of intensive care units and emergency departments across the state.

It is feared the strike could continue into Easter.

National secretary of the HSU, Kathy Jackson said admissions would be crippled, while intensive care patients would have to be evacuated to New South Wales, Tasmania and South Australia as hospitals will not be able to perform tests or administer treatment.

“When an ambulance shows up you can’t admit a patient without an X-ray being available, you can’t intubate them and you can’t operate on them,” she said.

“If something goes wrong in an ICU you need to be able to X-ray, use nuclear medicine or any diagnostic procedure,” said Ms Jackson.

Ms Jackson said the HSU offered arbitration last year, but the state government refused. “They’re not interested in settling disputes, they hope that we are just going to go away.”

“We’re not going away, we’ve gone back and balloted the whole public health workforce in Victoria, those ballots were successful, 97 percent approval rating,” she said.

The HSU is urging the government to commence serious negotiations to resolve the dispute before industrial action commenced.

The government has offered the union a 3.25 per cent pay increase, in line with other public sector workers but the union has demanded more, but stopped short of specifying a figure.

Victorian Premier John Brumby said the claim would be settled according to the government’s wages policy. “The Government is always willing and wanting to sit down and negotiate with the relevant organisations . . . we have a wages policy based around an increase of 3.25 per cent and, above that, productivity offset,” he told parliament.

The union claims it is also arguing against a lack of career structure, which has caused many professionals to leave the health service. Ms Jackson said wages and career structures in Victoria were behind other states.

Victorian Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu said he was not in support of the proposed strike and called on the government to meet with unions. “There could not be a more serious threat to our health system than has been announced today.”

“We now have to do whatever is possible to stop this strike from proceeding,” he said.

The opposition leader will meet with the union at 11:30 AM today.

Victorian Hospitals Industry Association industrial relations services manager Simon Chant said hospitals were looking at the possible impact and warned that patients may have to be evacuated interstate if the strike goes ahead.

Two men found guilty of murder of shop owner in West Yorkshire, England

Thursday, October 21, 2010

Two men have been found guilty of murdering shopkeeper Gurmail Singh in a robbery at his shop in West Yorkshire, England. During the robbery at Cowcliffe Convenience Store in Huddersfield in February, Singh was hit over the head with bottles of wine and died the next day.

Muawaz Khalid, aged twenty, and Nabeel Shafi, aged eighteen, both from Huddersfield were convicted of murder after a six-week trial at Bradford Crown Court. Three other men were cleared of murder but two were convicted of robbery; the third had previously admitted to assisting an offender. They will be sentenced on November 16.

The court was told how smokers at a public house opposite the shop became aware of the robbery when two of the gang were seen fleeing the scene. A man attempted to trap two remaining members of the gang inside the shop but they escaped through a back door. Other members of the public tried to stop them but they were able to get away.

Detective Superintendent David Pervin of West Yorkshire Police, speaking after the convictions said, “[l]ocal people showed great courage in attempting to tackle and capture those responsible at the time of the attack and, after the tragic events of that night, the wider community united and showed massive support in helping us to put these people before the courts. I cannot thank them enough for that.”

The Importance Of Pabx Systems For Better Communication

The Importance of PABX Systems For Better Communication

by

Gary Ernstzen

Private Automated Branch Exchange popularly known as PABX is the facility to convert company’s communication performance by enabling multiple telephone lines to internal extensions from external callers, through a single number. PABX has indeed expanded the opportunities of the small business houses that mostly use a single line. It facilitates multiple communications to take place simultaneously in different parts of the company. Since small businesses can not afford the luxury of increasing their headcount frequently to keep pace with the calls due to their limited fund constraint, PABX has come up as an attractive solution allowing large volumes of calls transfer with minimum human intervention. PABX not only transfers external callers to selected extensions automatically, it improves internal communication as well.

An important feature of PABX systems is speed dialing. Companies can now customize their own internal phone requirements to a great extent, and can bypass the need of the telecom providers for every innovation and adjustment courtesy PABX. Each PABX system provides best supply requirement and lends versatility. Being user friendly, it is easy to manage and needs economical training. PABX transfers a large number of calls in a short time, boosting better communications and customer relations eventually leading to higher profit. In order to direct calls to the exact destination, information is programmed into the telephone system. When a PABX system is operating at maximum efficiency, there is no need for operative staffing. Moreover due to direct access to target personnel the inquiry experience is better.

It is a fact that companies upgrading to a PABX system find their business performance greatly improved. However, due to the charges associated with installing such a network, a complete PABX system was beyond the budget of small companies in the past. Fortunately, these days smaller PABX’s are available in the market. Though such systems lack in certain aspects they still live up to their chief physical processing duties. Depending on the requirement and size, the system costs for PABX vary, ranging from a few hundred dollars to thousands. Most PABX systems function well for several years before companies consider upgrading or improving their system in line with their business growth.

Irrespective of the size of your business, there are distinct advantages to spending the money and investing in a PABX system. There are numerous PABX suppliers – online as well as brick and mortar stores that offer PABX solution.
