Choosing The Right Frame}

Choosing the Right Frame

by

Manu Geol

Paintings are more than mere decorative items, we have paintings in our homes because they allow us to express ourselves and represent who we are. Like music paintings create atmosphere and add colour to our daily lives.

The frame is an integral part of the painting, used to enhance its beauty. A frame must carefully chosen because it can affect the overall appearance in a dramatic way.

Generally, frame colours are classified into two groups, contrasted and blended. Contrasted frames are used to achieve a dynamic colour combination between the painting and the frame. Here, the frame is playing a significant role in the overall outcome of painting. Blended style frames use colours similar to the more prominent colours of the painting, so that the observer focuses on the painting more than the frame.

In recent years, Gallery wrap frames have become quite popular, and are often chosen over classic style. Gallery wrapping is when the canvas is stretched and wrapped around a simple wooden frame, covering the entire frame creating a 3D appearance. The thickness of the wood changes the ‘feeling’ of the painting thus, choosing a thick or thin frame makes a difference. Although it may sound strange, research has shown that a thicker wooden frame makes the painting look more expensive.

A classical frame is actually two separate frames. An inner frame, which the canvas will be stretched on and an outer frame for decoration. The two frames are connected by screws or pins that together form a strong structure for the painting. The stretching of a canvas is very important because if it isn’t done properly ,the canvas will be loose and the painting will lose some of its effect.

A gallery wrap is usually chosen by young people and it is often used for modern and post-modern paintings rather than classic style painting. There are two major benefits for using a gallery wrap, weight and cost. A Gallery wrap is cheaper than a classical frame because it uses less materials, and is the lightest of all frame styles. Since gallery wrapped paintings require canvas, it can only be used only for oil and acrylic paintings. Watercolour paintings, charcoal, pencil and pastel drawings are usually done on different kinds of papers.

Watercolour paintings, Charcoal, pencil and pastel drawings have to be framed with a protecting glass because these four mediums are more sensitive to sunlight, oxygen and human touch. Even though the painting is coated with a layer sealant for protection, they must be covered with glass and cared for more delicately than other mediums. Thanks to technology, we are now able to frame the paintings with imitation glass. The benefits of using such material are lower prices and also avoiding the danger of glass breaking and damaging the painting. Another benefit is that imitation glass weighs less than actual glass and it has almost no reflection.

However, there are two drawbacks to using imitation glass. First, it is easily scratched, and second, on large paintings (over 24”x36”) it causes the surface to appear wavy because it is not as flat as glass. There are few companies in the market who offer custom made paintings. This unique service enables us to create our own original masterpieces by painting whatever subjects our clients would like us to paint. The process is very simple, you only need to send us a digital photo to our website. We then, send it to an artist who will paint it according to your requirements. Once the painting is done you will get it by post (with or without a frame). This service is called “painting from photo”. Our service enables our clients to paint their lifestyles in any way that they choose.

Paintings bring colour and joy into our lives. Sometimes we choose a portrait of our family, sometimes of our pets, sometimes of a beautiful landscape and sometimes an abstract. However, the frame must be chosen carefully. We need to consider the overall outcome of the combination of the frame and the painting. A well framed painting allows us to enjoy it for years to come. Remember, real art is not only for rich people, It belongs to each and every one of us!

Anna Nicole Smith dies

Thursday, February 8, 2007

Anna Nicole Smith, who was born as Vickie Lynn Hogan, was found unconscious in the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Florida in her 6th floor hotel room. One of her attorneys has confirmed that she was pronounced dead at a hospital less than an hour later. She was 39.

Paramedics are reported to have performed CPR on the actress and had to have breathing equipment inserted into her chest after a nurse found her passed out in her hotel room and witnesses say that Smith was receiving CPR while the ambulance took her to the hospital around 2:00 p.m. [EST]. Smith’s bodyguard is reported to have given Smith “cardiopulmonary resuscitation” before paramedics arrived.

“I can confirm that she is deceased. It’s as shocking to me as to you guys. I don’t know what the cause was. This is just tragic and that’s all you can say right now and I don’t know anything further,” said one of Anna Nicole’s lawyers, Ron Rale.

Smith was taken by ambulance to Memorial Regional Hospital and “checked in Monday [to the hotel] at 8 p.m. as a guest. She was due to check out tomorrow,” said cafe spokeswoman, Danielle Giordaano.

“Our rescue crews got there, and they were escorted to a bedroom, where they found a female alone in her room and unresponsive. We then began our normal protocol for dealing with a non-breathing individual. The victim never regained consciousness and we continued with CPR and all life-support methods right up until the time we delivered her to the hospital and then the hospital takes over,” said a spokesman for the responding paramedics team. Smith was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:49 p.m. [EST].

According to Broward County Medical Examiner’s Office investigator, Edwina Johnson, an autopsy will be performed on Smith on Friday and that her death is currently being investigated. Authorities are not yet treating her death as a crime.

One of Smith’s attorneys, Howard K. Stern, is reported to have been staying with Smith in her room, but authorities have yet to locate Mr. Stern. Mr. Stern is identified by TRIMSPA as Smith’s husband.

“He was here with her. I don’t know where he’s at right now,” said Charlie Tiger the chief of the Seminole Police Department also adding that Smith’s 5 month old baby was not with them.

Smith was a spokeswoman for the company TRIMSPA when she passed, and TrimSpa has removed all content from their site for now, shutting it down and posting only a message in response to her death.

“Today, Anna Nicole Smith’s grief stricken and tumultuous personal life came to an end. Anna came to our Company as a customer, but she departs it as a friend. While life for Anna Nicole was not easy these past few months, she held dear her husband, Howard K. Stern, her daughter, Dannielynn Hope, her most cherished friends, beloved dogs, and finally, her work with TRIMSPA. Anna knew both the joy of giving life, and the heartache of losing a child. We pray that she is granted the peace that eluded her more recent days on earth, and that she find comfort in the presence of her son, Daniel,” said the statement on TRIMSPA’s website posted by Alex Goen, CEO and Founder of TRIMSPA.

Smith was rushed to the hospital in November of 2006 after she was suffering from symptoms of pneumonia. Smith’s son, Daniel Smith, died on September 10, 2006 shortly after Anna gave birth to a baby girl 5 months ago.

Smith was shopping for a new boat in Florida and reports say she felt ill and had a fever for at least a day.

DUP and Sinn Féin make gains in Northern Ireland Assembly election

Thursday, March 8, 2007

Results are coming in for the Northern Ireland Assembly election held on Wednesday 7 March. With all first preference votes counted, both the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and Sinn Féin have made gains: the DUP received 30.1% of first preferences, an increase of 4.4 percentage points on the 2003 election, while Sinn Féin won 26.2%, up 2.6 percentage points. This means that the two parties have gained more than half of the vote. The Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) came third with 15.2%, the Ulster Unionist Party fourth with 14.9% and the Alliance Party fifth with 5.2%.

I’m optimistic that we can achieve a working government on March 26, but it’s a very stark choice for them — get into power, or shut up shop.

The election is a crucial step in restoring devolved government to Northern Ireland, which has been under direct rule from Westminster since October 2002, when the Assembly was suspended after allegations that an IRA spy ring was operating there. The resulting court case collapsed. Attempts to get the leading unionist and nationalist parties to resume power-sharing had failed until the St Andrews Agreement was reached in October 2006. This agreement commits Sinn Féin to accepting the Police Service of Northern Ireland and the DUP to accepting power-sharing.

All 108 seats have now been filled. The DUP are the largest party with 36 seats, followed by Sinn Féin with 28 seats. Their combined total of 64 seats gives the two parties a majority of ten in the Assembly, assuming that they are willing to work together. Among others, DUP leader Ian Paisley has been elected in North Antrim, as has Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams in West Belfast. DUP deputy leader Peter Robinson topped the poll in East Belfast, where Naomi Long of the Alliance Party was also elected. The leaders of the other two main parties were also elected: Mark Durkan of the SDLP was elected on the first count in Foyle, while Ulster Unionist leader Sir Reg Empey was elected on the third count in East Belfast. Alliance Party leader David Ford was elected in his constituency of South Antrim on the fifth count. Dawn Purvis, leader of the Progressive Unionist Party (PUP), was elected on the last count in East Belfast. The Green Party won their first ever seat in the Northern Ireland Assembly, when their Northern Ireland chairperson Brian Wilson was elected on the tenth count in North Down with 2839 first preference votes.

I think it [power-sharing] is very, very important in terms of representing a community that for a long time was marginalized and excluded. We’re about reaching out to the Unionists.

Anna Lo of the Alliance Party has become the first candidate from an ethnic minority background to have been elected to the Northern Ireland Assembly, winning a seat in South Belfast with the fourth highest first preference vote in the constituency, 3829 votes. She said her decision to stand had been an extension of her community work, and that she wanted to give a voice to Chinese people who never felt they had any part to play in Northern Ireland politics. She also said she hoped that indigenous voters who were fed up with “tribal politics” would give her their support, and that she was determined “to be much more than a candidate for ethnic minorities”.

Counting the votes cast in the 600 polling stations continued through to Friday 9 March. Turnout was 63.5%, down 0.5 percentage points on the previous election. Assembly elections use the Single Transferable Vote (STV) method of proportional representation, with each constituency returning six MLAs.

Sinn Féin are not entitled to be at the table until they declare themselves for democracy. I am a democrat, I don’t speak to loyalist paramilitaries, I don’t speak to Sinn Féin.

A new power-sharing Northern Ireland Executive is to be formed by 26 March, according to the St Andrews Agreement. The election of a First Minister and Deputy First Minister requires the support of a majority of unionist MLAs and of nationalist MLAs (“parallel consent”). In practice this means that the largest unionist party and the largest nationalist party must agree to share power. If they cannot agree by the deadline the Northern Ireland Assembly at Stormont will be suspended again and MLAs will have their salaries and allowances stopped. Though there has been criticism of the deal reached at St Andrews by elements within both the DUP and Sinn Féin, the government in Westminster believes that these dissenters are in a minority.

Northern Ireland Secretary Peter Hain said to CNN: “I’m optimistic that we can achieve a working government on March 26, but it’s a very stark choice for them — get into power, or shut up shop”. But he also warned that “if this falls over on March 26, there is no prospect of another settlement for a very long time, maybe years”. On Friday 9 March Mr Hain began separate meetings with the leaders and deputy leaders of the DUP and Sinn Féin.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams said he had “no problem” with working with the Unionists and shaking the hand of Ian Paisley: “I think it is very, very important in terms of representing a community that for a long time was marginalized and excluded. We’re about reaching out to the Unionists”.

All must now take responsibility in government for building and consolidating peace, this is what the people of Northern Ireland want. They deserve no less.

But Ian Paisley claimed that Sinn Féin’s decision to support the police had been “qualified”, and said, “you can’t pick and choose how far you are prepared to go for peace.” He also said that Sinn Féin had to “turn from their evil ways”. To the BBC he said: “We will enter into talks tomorrow with the Secretary of State, we will be meeting the Prime Minister next week, and the hard negotiations are now going to start. Sinn Féin are not entitled to be at the table until they declare themselves for democracy. I am a democrat, I don’t speak to loyalist paramilitaries, I don’t speak to Sinn Féin”.

On Friday 9 March British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Irish Taoiseach Bertie Ahern made a joint statement. They said, “The message of the electorate is clear. After so many years of frustration and disappointment, they want Northern Ireland to move on to build a better future together through the restored institutions. Many of the practical issues which have been raised in this election campaign can and should be resolved locally.” They said that they would work closely with the Northern Irish parties to restore devolved government by the deadline of 26 March and praised the progress already made in this direction. “The people of Northern Ireland have suffered grievous pain and loss. But enormous progress has been made and there is now no good reason why we should not be able to complete this historic process. All must now take responsibility in government for building and consolidating peace, this is what the people of Northern Ireland want. They deserve no less.”

Jobs: The Best Medical Job Search Tips Ever

The demand for these positions is, in fact, consistently growing because there were also notable increases in medicine and health care-related job searches. It reported a total of 3.5 million searches just in the Internet and a particular web site alone.Finding a job in the medical field can be very tedious and daunting, especially with all those millions of competitors all vying for the same related work field. Therefore, for people who wish to obtain some edge over the others and have higher possibilities that they can get the medical job they have long wanted to have, here are some tips to guide them through:1. The key to your dream job is in the resumeGone are the days of the so-called cookie-cutter resumes. What matters most is to incorporate all the details being asked in the job posting. The employer seeks to find the details he had posted in the listing; hence, he would be expecting to find it on the applicants resume. Make certain that the resume matches the qualifications that the potential employer is seeking.2. Applicants should have previous experience alreadyThe key point into getting a good medical job is based on the fact that prior to the application, the applicant should, by all means, try to generate some work experience even if the starting salary is just minimal. As long as it will give a person some kind of work experience, he or she should never hesitate to grab the opportunity. In reality, 60% of the hiring employers are interested with the work experience, with all the other qualifications set aside.3. For medical job searches online, it is best if the applicant will narrow job searches. This means that the person should use terms that are more specific with regards to the kind of medical job he or she is looking for. It will not necessarily give the applicant a thousand results, but at least the applicant can generate at least 10 to 20 job searches with greater possibility of acquiring a job.The bottom line is that medical related jobs are not that hard to find. With some determination and persistence the chances of obtaining the ideal job is just a matter of time.

Reasons To Consider A Car Lease In Plainfield

byadmin

As with everything in life, a car lease in Plainfield could be the best choice or the worst. It’s important to understand that everything is two-fold. There are many reasons to consider leasing, but there are also a variety of reasons for buying. Knowing more about leasing and its benefits can help you make the right choice.

Drive New

If you’re like many, you want a new vehicle every few years, but don’t have the money to buy them outright. Leasing can be an excellent alternative because you can get a car lease in Plainfield, drive it for three or four years, and then upgrade to another one. Whether you want to create an image of yourself or want the best technological and safety innovations, you’ll guarantee that you always have those options.

Likewise, it works well for people who want a particular vehicle now, but may need to change in a few years. For example, if you’re currently single and hope to get married in a few years, you may want a sporty vehicle and change to a more family-friendly option when the time comes.

Less Mileage

If you’re someone who rarely drives more than 15,000 miles a year, leasing could be the answer for you. Most agreements allow you to drive anywhere from 10,000 to 15,000 miles a year. If you go over that amount, you’ll have larger penalties to pay when you return the vehicle. However, leasing can still work if you drive a lot because you can pre-purchase miles to use during the contract.

Credit History And Finances

Leasing is still like signing a rental contract or taking out a loan, so you should have good credit and be financially stable.

A car lease in Plainfield could help you get into a new vehicle every few years. Visit Hawk Volkswagen of Joliet now to learn more and also like our Facebook page.

Space Shuttle Discovery resumes rollout to launch pad

Wednesday, April 6, 2005

NASA reports that the Return to Flight mission has started to roll toward the launch pad once again.

The rollout of the shuttle Discovery, scheduled for April 5 around midnight local time, was moved forward as a precaution when a small crack was discovered in the foam insulation on an external fuel tank. Officials decided it was no reason for concern.

As of 2:04 p.m. EDT (18:04 UTC) today the orbiter began inching out of the Vehicle Assembly Building’s hanger at Kennedy Space Center in Florida and onto the access road for the launch pad 39B. It is expected to reach the launch pad around 8 p.m. EDT.

The actual launch window for the 114th Space Shuttle flight, and the 31st flight of the orbiter Discovery, will be no earlier than May 15 to June 3, 2005.

The trip to the International Space Station, “Return to Flight” STS-114, will last 12 days and be the first flight since the Shuttle Columbia tragedy in 2003. This flight will test a new robot extension arm, the Canadian-built Orbiter Boom Sensor System, used to repair the exterior of the International Space Station.

The Space Shuttle goes from standing still on the launch pad to more than 17,000 miles per hour in just over eight minutes. That means the astronauts go 2,000 miles per hour faster every minute.

Wikinews interviews Jim Hedges, U.S. Prohibition Party presidential candidate

Saturday, January 29, 2011

U.S. Prohibition Party presidential candidate Jim Hedges of Thompson Township, Pennsylvania took some time to answer a few questions about the Prohibition Party and his 2012 presidential campaign.

The Prohibition Party is the third oldest existing political party in the United States, having been established in 1869. It reached its height of popularity during the late 19th century. The party heavily supported the Eighteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which banned the sale of alcohol, and resulted in the US period known as Prohibition (1919–33). It was repealed in 1933. The party has declined since this period, but has continued to nominate candidates for the presidential election.

In 2003, the party split into two factions. Preacher Gene Amondson and perennial candidate Earl Dodge were nominated for the presidency by their respective factions. After Dodge’s death in 2007, the party reunified and named Amondson as its sole presidential nominee for 2008. During the election, Amondson was interviewed by Wikinews. He died in 2009, leaving an opening in the party for 2012.

Jim Hedges is a longtime Prohibition activist, who holds the distinction of the first individual of the 21st century (and the first since 1959) to be elected to a political office under the Prohibition Party banner. In 2001, he was elected as the Thompson Township tax assessor, and was re-elected to the post in 2005. He served until his term expired in 2010. Hedges declared his intent to run for the Prohibition Party presidential nomination on February 18, 2010. This marks his first run for the presidency.
